Mistakes Happen.....

Well, it's like they say, you learn by your mistakes. Also, others can learn as well if you share them with others. So here's my mistake in Canola....

I didn't want to be in the market over the weekend, so I cancelled all my orders, and placed a limit order to get out at where the market was. Along with the order, I had it as an OCO order, placed my stop loss attached just in case the limit order didn't take and the market reversed. Well, it hit, and I was out for profit, and the other half of the OCO order was cancelled.

Well, that's what I thought. In placing the order, since I was busy at work and placed the order quickly, here's where my mistake was entered. I mistyped numbers. Instead of having my OCO at 257.90, I placed it as 258.90. And my limit order was for 261.0.

So here's what happened. I sold 3 contracts for 261.20. My account showed profit, and I was flat. So I was excited. I checked back 15 minutes later, I was flat and OCO cancelled. Now, when I got home, my account now shows I got out at 258.70 for a small profit, which does not cover all commissions, and that I'm short 3 contracts at 261.20, which puts me at a open profit of $82.37. This was a shock to me. But at least I'm up rather than down. This could have been a bad situation, but I just got lucky this time. But as for Monday, will see how things shake out. I'll be getting out of the short position first thing Monday morning, hopefully for some profit.

So remember, watch your numbers. Any comments welcome...
