You know Linda the more I learn about the world's financial mess the more I shake my head muttering "how could they let it get this bad!" The problem is the "they". They don't really know what they're doing. "They" don't seem to understand how terrible all this debt is. "Crippling" is an understatement!
We're a little bit more fortunate in Canada in that our economic policies don't allow the heavy leveraging that was going on in the US and Europe; however we're not immune... not by a long shot. But what's really scary is the size of the debts. We're still measuring our debt in billions, but you guys are into the trillions!
Do you know how much a trillion is? I heard an analogy the other day that put it into shocking perspective.
Looking at seconds in stead of dollars, if you took a million seconds you would go back in time 3 years. A billion seconds would take you back in time 30 years. A trillion seconds takes you back 30,000 years! And that's only 1 trillion.
What's the US deficit running now? 4 trillion? I can't even fathom how a country would pay off that much money never mind owing its economic soul to a country like China. Having said that I don't doubt the USA will come back from this; however it will be a long, and very difficult road.
I think I need an antacid.
