TN traders, I have a tax question...

Greetings,

I know there used to be at least a couple of you traders that live in the great state of Tennessee. And I seem to remember Shaggy living there, too.

(Are you still there, Shaggy? I miss the chats we used to have from time to time. Hope you are well.)

There is no "state income tax" in TN, but they do have something called the Hall Tax. And I have not been able to figure out if that may extend to profits derived from forex or commodity futures trading. Most websites list "dividends and interest" as taxable under the Hall Tax, but I haven't gotten a clear feel for whether trading profits may also be a part of their target.

If there is someone in TN who has dealt with the Hall Tax, I would be especially interested to know whether it would affect trading profits. I'm pretty sure the tax doesn't kick in before $2500/yr in profits so it's probably a pretty small group that would have actual experience.

Please fill me in if you can.

I am currently a resident of South Dakota. I love SD. It's about as tax friendly as you can get, at least it has been for me. But my wife is from the south and doesn't like those cold winters. And TN is looking pretty attractive in a lot of ways.

Thanks for any input you can send my way. I would really appreciate it.

Brian T.
