The only problem with the "news" is that it's often made to fit what the market did that day. I chuckle when I hear about how "commodity stocks" or "profit taking" or "better/worse than expected earnings reports" were responsible for what the Dow did that day. Having said that, Linda's right that there are some very real fundamentals driving some markets like Gold where the whole credit fiasco and the Fed printing too much money are sending Gold prices soaring. Knowing basic fundamentals can help keep you on the right side of markets like this but at the same time the news is not that important as everything you need to know really is in the chart. Your job as a trader is to learn to "read" it.
