I guess the question becomes, how do you stop runaway inflation? Until we see the US Government facing the issues of the top three spending categories, I really don't know how things are going to magically turn around. We have 1) huge military spending, 2) huge and growing social security payouts (plus entitlement programs) and 3) a huge and growing national debt (and deficit spending).

It sobers me to think of how the present society would react to a real depression. This isn't a 1930s society anymore. It's not an agrarian society anymore. Human life is pretty cheap. Look at post Katrina New Orleans, take away the "storm", and multiply the crime and looting by about 10,000+. Not a pretty picture.

Nope, things aren't good. God help us.
