"Did you know there's a group of officials whose sole duty is to make sure the market doesn't drop too badly? The funny thing is that there are a lot of people out there who believe that this group doesn't even exist.
But the fact is they were created by Ronald Reagan back in 1988, when he signed executive order 12631. That's when he created the Working Group on Financial Markets, also known as the Plunge Protection Team (PPT).
This group is made up of:
The Secretary of the Treasury (as Chairman of the Working Group)
The Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
The Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission
The Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission "
